Leather Care Guide

How to Clean, Protect, and Store Your Italian Leather Bag

At House of Enira, we believe that true luxury is meant to last. Every bag is crafted from genuine Italian leather — from supple Aniline to structured Saffiano — and deserves simple, honest care. Follow these practical steps to keep your leather looking refined for years to come.

General Leather Care

Keep it dry
Leather and water don’t mix. If your bag gets wet, pat it dry with a soft cloth and let it air-dry naturally — never near heat sources.

Avoid overloading
Leather stretches when overfilled. Carry only what you need to keep its shape intact.

Handle with clean hands
Natural oils, makeup, or sanitizer can stain your bag. A quick hand wash before use helps prevent this.

Rotate your bags
Using different bags in rotation reduces wear and helps each piece age more gracefully.

How to Clean Leather Bags

Regular cleaning: Gently wipe your bag with a soft, dry microfiber cloth to remove surface dust.

For deeper cleaning:

  • Lightly dampen a cloth, wipe in circular motions, and buff dry.

  • Always test any product on a discreet area first

  • Avoid: alcohol, bleach, baby wipes, and generic cleaners — they can remove color or damage the surface.

Conditioning Leather

To keep the leather supple and prevent cracking:

  • Apply a thin layer of neutral leather cream every 3–6 months.

  • Buff with a clean, soft cloth.

  • Do not over-condition — it can make the surface sticky.

Storing Your Leather Handbag

Shape it: Fill with tissue paper or soft cotton to maintain its silhouette.

Cover it: Use a breathable cotton dust bag. Avoid plastic — it traps humidity.

Keep it cool: Store in a dry, dark place away from sunlight and radiators.

Let it breathe: Air out your leather bag every few months to prevent mustiness.

Care by Leather Type

Aniline Leather

Soft, smooth, and naturally luxurious. Avoid moisture and sunlight. Clean gently with a damp cloth and condition every few months to maintain its buttery texture.

Pebbled Leather

Low maintenance and durable. Simply wipe clean and let it air dry. Use conditioner occasionally to keep the grain soft and flexible.

Ruga Leather

Satin-gloss finish and smooth texture. Wipe surfaces with a soft, dry microfiber cloth.Use a non-wax, water-based leather conditioner sparingly, once or twice a year.

Tamponato

Hand-finished, often two-tone, antique look. Clean using a soft, dry cotton cloth only; avoid vigorous rubbing. Use a neutral or color-matched cream conditioner sparingly. Never use solvents or harsh cleaners, as they will lift the hand-applied color

Vachetta Leather

Natural, untreated leather that darkens beautifully over time. Keep away from rain and oils. Use a natural wax conditioner sparingly. Patina is part of its charm.

Suede & Nubuck

Brush gently with a suede brush to lift the nap and remove dirt. Protect with a suede spray before first use. Never use water or creams.

Embossed & Patterned Leather

Clean carefully with a damp cloth. Avoid wax creams that can fill embossed details.
